Mazus radicans Motley Mazus

MAZUS RADICANS MOTLEY MAZUS

Mazus radicans
Motley Mazus DROUGHT-WISE
Leaf color ranges from brown to green with black spots. Runners form on top and below the soil. Grows tight to the ground and covers the surface completely. Topped in summer for 4-6 weeks with snapdragon-like flowers, which are all white on the top and purple on the bottom with a yellow throat. The flower itself is twice as big as the leaves of the plant. Excellent in between stones or as a lawn substitute.

Tips from Fran
Mazus radicans is one of my secret weapons in the garden.  Yes, the foliage is a bit weird, not to mention the bloom, but this plant is one tough cookie. It grows by underground runners and topical runners. It is an amazing lawn substitute plant in which you could hold wrestling match on this plant and it will rebound nicely.
