Ajuga reptans is easy to grow.  It prefers a well-drained shady location but also performs well in sunny areas. Will adapt to a wide variety of conditions EXCEPT extremely wet. This plant would thrive in organic matter. A light, early spring fertilization is sufficient. Ajuga is relatively care-free, however, it can spread, particularly in lawns. It is susceptible to crown rot. To limit damage from crown rot, rake debris regularly and keep the bed as clean as possible. Dig out unwanted plants to keep within boundaries.

Excellent ground cover to use as an ornamental lawn alternative, with a light amount of foot traffic. Can be used as a lawn substitution if Ajuga blooms are cut back to make way for normal foot traffic.
Also...this plant can be quite drought tolerant with the correct conditions, but can also whither under drought conditions as well. If you want to use this for drought conditions, please be aware that it is a bit "ify" for severe drought, but a drier location with intermittent watering may be just fine.
